"Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become." (C. S. Lewis)
The English courses at Renfrew Collegiate Institute are designed to develop the oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that students need for success in secondary school and in their daily lives.
Each year, the English classes will build on the above skills, while encouraging our students to not only become critical thinkers in the twenty-first century, but to make critical links to the world around us through the literature we are studying.
