The School Council is partnering with the school board to provide three parent sessions in the Renfrew Collegiate Institute library throughout the school year.

This series, called “Help is Close to Home - Help for Parents to Partner with their Children,” is designed to deal with a variety of topics that are intended to help parents give support to their students, whether they are at home or at school.

“Sometimes it’s difficult for parents to get information or help that they need to aid in their student’s education and future endeavours,” explained RCI Parent Council President, Sandra Beimers. “By having these sessions throughout the year, we hope to be able to assist parents in these areas.”

The first session is set for November 18th at 7:00 PM and will feature speakers from the School Board Office. It will cover the use of electronics in the classroom, as well as the School Cash On-Line program, board and school websites, and Twitter.

The next session, “Guide To Choosing the Right Career Path”, is scheduled for early February, and will assist parents in helping their students in choosing the right career path and post-secondary education.

The final session will be held in early May and will deal with Mental Health. The School Council will provide parents with a guide to helping students cope with stress along with other factors that affect a student’s mental well-being.

Each session will be no longer than two hours and refreshments will be served.
