On behalf of the Wall of Achievement Committee (Principal Hughes, former Principals Emon, Scott, and O'Brien, Anne MacNeil, Gord Eady, and Todd Stewart), we are pleased to announce the 2015 inductee (and seventh person to join this elite club): Professor Stacey Brydges.

Stacey Brydges was selected as RCI’s Valedictorian in 1991 before embarking on a storied career in chemistry, biochemistry, and education.  After receiving her Ph.D in Inorganic Chemistry from McMaster University, she accepted a position with Columbia University in New York City as a lecturer and Associate Research Scientist.  From here, Professor Brydges moved west to the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) where she has received numerous accolades including the 2013/2014 UCSD Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award, the 2013 UCSD Panhellenic Outstanding Professor Award , and the UCSD Office of Academic Support & Instructional Services Faculty Appreciation Award in 2009 and 2010.  Professor Brydges is a leading advocate in the U.S for expanding and implementing science and chemistry in curriculum from elementary school to university graduate school with efforts to improve science literacy and produce meaningful experiences in the chemical sciences.

Upon receiving notification of this honour, Dr Brydges said "I am extremely grateful and humbled to be considered for this recognition by your committee, especially given the remarkable life’s work of the other alumni who are featured on the RCI Wall of Achievement, and the rich and proud history that they represent. It is also so meaningful because the education I received at RCI, both within and beyond the classroom, has been the foundation upon which I’ve developed as an individual and lifelong learner.  I am indebted to the teachers, staff, and students who were part of my high school experience."  She also mentions that office has RCI book ends that makes her think of our school motto "Haec olim meminisse iuvabit"

Stacey's mother Mona was an RCI teaching staff member.  Mona called me with tears of pride when she heard this news (it was the best "work" phone call this year).

Now, we are finalizing the details of Dr. Brydges's biography and photo before her display joins the others outside the Grant Gym. You can see all the other inductees on our school website .

We have a pool of standing nominations that gets voted on each fall by the committee and we will look to expand this pool of candidates soon (once girls basketball is over, I will make a Google Form for easier nominations). As our Facebook audience continues to grow we are hopeful that more names and stories will come forward.
