This past week, students at Renfrew Collegiate Institute have been busy outside of the classroom.

On December 4th The Senior Parenting Class at RCI helped the Junior and Senior Kindergarten students from Queen Elizabeth School write their letters to Santa.

The JK and SK students in Heather Raudssus’ and Dora Vanderwoude’s class having been pairing up every two weeks since October.

The Parenting class, taught by Charlene Edwards-Budden was treated to a special play performance by some of the JK and SK students before scribing letters to Santa.

The young students were able to print their names, and cut out pictures of items they wanted to share with Santa, while senior students helped with either spelling or writing down items that the students wished Santa could bring them.

On Wednesday December 3rd, seven classes walked to the O’Brien Theatre after lunch to view The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 movie. Students viewed the science fiction adventure film and expanded their understanding of characterization, symbolism, archetypes, pathetic fallacy, and themes.

On Wednesday night, December 3rd, eight RCI students who placed first, second or third in the local Remembrance Contest attended an awards ceremony hosted by the Renfrew Royal Canadian Legion. Congratulations to Marissa de Boer, Leyalee Alsaadi, and Meredith Abraham who also placed first at the Zone competition. The essay, poem and poster will move on to the next level of judging.
